Travelling exhibition by Jimmy Nelson

The Zaans Museum proudly welcomes the traveling exhibition Ode to the Netherlands by Jimmy Nelson. The photographer, known for his impressive depictions of cultural traditions worldwide, has now focused his lens on the Netherlands.
Ode aan Nederland takes visitors along twenty Dutch communities that cherish their regional and traditional costumes, including the Zaanstreek. The photos show how traditional clothing is lovingly preserved and worn. It offers a contemporary perspective on the preservation of Dutch cultural heritage. It is a call to pay more attention to our own traditions. The exhibition is based on Nelson’s book Between the Sea and the Sky.
TexLAB, lectures and workshops
Visitors of the exhibition can work on creative textile assignments in the TexLAB. There are also lectures and workshops.
The programming was developed in collaboration with the platform Modemuze, Crafts Council Nederland, Stichting de Zaanse Kaper and textile and regional costume specialist Inge Bosman.
The exhibition Ode aan Nederland is made possible by the Jimmy Nelson Foundation and Stichting De Zaanse Kaper.
The Zaans Museum was founded in 1998 on the Zaanse Schans to guard and preserve the Zaan heritage.
The Hembrug Museum tells the story of the arms and ammunition factory that was located on the Hembrugterrein in Zaandam.
In 1697, the Russian Tsar Peter the Great stayed in this world-famous house in the center of Zaandam.
