Past
In this space, workers who worked with explosive materials could wash and change. Like the other buildings nearby, this building was given a curved roof so that it could be used in future to produce explosives. In the event of an explosion, the curved roof served to direct the blast wave towards the north of the site. Here, woods had been planted as a buffer between the site and the city of Zaandam. The wave could not be directed south, as the administrative buildings were located on the waterfront.

This is now Joris Laarman Lab. The workshop’s designs and creations reflect a fascination with technological progress and all the attendant possibilities.
