Building 408

Gebouw 408, Hembrug

Lacquer workshop

Built in 1952, not a monument

Past
Here, cartridge shells – the casing around the powder charges in weapons – were lacquered. The building was part of the complex where cartridges were produced. Later on, it was used as a washing and changing room. The southern section was the inspection centre until Eurometaal shut down in 2003.

Present
Currently, the building is home to Taets Art and Event Park. Events and exhibitions are held here.

The Zaans Museum was founded in 1998 on the Zaanse Schans to guard and preserve the Zaan heritage.

The Hembrug Museum tells the story of the arms and ammunition factory that was located on the Hembrugterrein in Zaandam.

In 1697, the Russian Tsar Peter the Great stayed in this world-famous house in the center of Zaandam.
