PinksterZaan at the Zaans Museum
24–26 May, ongoing
Cost: Free
Around Pentecost in 1574, the troops of the Spanish king were defeated near Wormer. This feat of arms from the Eighty Years’ War takes centre stage during PinksterZaan at the Zaanse Schans. The Zaans Museum is also giving special attention to this remarkable history. On 24, 25 and 26 May, the mini-documentary In Search of the Zaanse Schans will be shown there. Dutch spoken, with English subtitles.
The documentary follows a search for traces of this historic battle at the Zaanse Schans itself, and visits the Noord-Hollands Archief, Museum Kaap Skil and a “schans” (fortification) on Texel. The documentary is screened every hour in the museum’s entrance area, has English subtitles, and is free to access for all visitors to the Schans during the Pentecost weekend.
