Zaanse Schans

Tsar Peter House

Discover royal Zaandam! The Zaan shipbuilding industry was so highly renowned in the seventeenth century, that Tsar Peter the Great from Russia specially travelled to Zaandam in 1697 to learn more about this success story. During his stay, he lodged in a wooden house, built in 1632. His visit to the house brought it global fame.

During the guided tour of the Tsar Peter House you’ll learn everything about the Tsar’s visit to the Zaan shipyards and his stay at the wooden house.

The Zaans Museum was founded in 1998 on the Zaanse Schans to guard and preserve the Zaan heritage.

The Hembrug Museum tells the story of the arms and ammunition factory that was located on the Hembrugterrein in Zaandam.

In 1697, the Russian Tsar Peter the Great stayed in this world-famous house in the center of Zaandam.
