A world-famous piece of Holland
Visit the Zaans Museum at the Zaanse Schans! Go on a fascinating journey from the very first windmills and green wooden houses to modern factories and admire traditional Dutch paintings, costumes, and artefacts. You’ll discover that a lot of things seen as typically Dutch are actually typical of the Zaan region.
Traditional crafts
On the Zaanse Schans, the Zaans Museum demonstrates traditional Dutch crafts in the Weaver’s House and the Coopery. In the Jisper House, you can try on traditional Dutch costumes.
Chocolate and biscuit factory
At the heart of the Zaans Museum you will find the Verkade Experience. A treat for young and old alike, the Verkade Experience transports you back to the chocolate and biscuit factory of the early twentieth century, where the original machines are still churning away.
Claude Monet
The artist Claude Monet visited the Zaan region in 1871. What he saw inspired him so much that he produced 25 paintings here. You will see ‘The Voorzaan and the Westerhem’ and an interactive presentation with all his Zaan-related works at the Zaans Museum.
Museum Café
A stunning view across the Dutch landscape makes the Museum Café worth a visit. Enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or tea with tasty cakes or bread.
