How do you wear your traditions?

The exhibition Ode aan Nederland by Jimmy Nelson takes visitors along twenty Dutch communities which cherish their regional and traditional costumes, including the Zaanstreek. It is a call to pay more attention to our own traditions.

The Zaans Museum would also like to celebrate other traditions that are worn. Perhaps you wear a special piece of jewellery which has been in your family for generations. Or a garment made of special fabric with a meaningful pattern. We believe that cherishing traditions is important. This tells your story and shows your identity and history.

That is why we call on you to share your worn tradition with us and others. Share a photo of your unique costume via the form below and tell us what this means to you. Or post the photo on social media with #OdeAanMijnTradities. The most beautiful photos will get a place in the exhibition.

”I am wearing my father’s wedding Beskap, a traditional piece of clothing and Keris (Javanese dagger) earrings. It is important for me to wear these pieces and share them because it is my way to walk through life expressing my Javanese heritage.”
